$95K Grant For West Orange Will Pay For Litter Cleanup, Stormwater Maintenance

WEST ORANGE, NJ — West Orange has received a $95,913 grant to boost litter cleanup and stormwater maintenance efforts, officials say.

The grant funding is provided through the New Jersey Clean Communities Council (NJCCC). The program is in partnership with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.

The township released some background information about the program – and plans for the money – in a news release last week:

“The NJCCC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established under the Clean Communities Act of 1986 with a mission focused on reducing litter statewide. Through education, community cleanups, and enforcement initiatives, the organization works to keep New Jersey communities clean while also administering programs such as Adopt-a-Highway and Adopt-a-Beach. The township will utilize the grant funding of $95,913 to strengthen its local cleanup efforts, including hiring additional litter patrol staff, installing additional trash receptacles, and conducting stormwater catch basin cleanouts. These improvements will help reduce debris buildup, improve drainage efficiency, and mitigate localized flooding throughout West Orange.”

Mayor Susan McCartney and Health Director/Clean Communities Coordinator Michael Fonzino recently joined representatives from more than a dozen municipalities to accept the grant.
