Massive NJ Supermarket Closing North Jersey Locations to
The company will close two of their supermarkets in North Jersey, including one in Bergen County, and potentially lay off more than 100.

HILLSDALE, NJ — Two Kings food markets in North Jersey will lay off as many as 122 workers and close by early next year, a spokesperson confirmed for Patch on Monday.
The Acme company said in a WARN (Worker Adjustment And Retraining Notification) notice to the state of New Jersey on Friday that the layoffs will take place on or before Jan. 2, 2027.
"We announced plans to close the Kings Food Markets locations in Hillsdale and White House Station, New Jersey," said Albertsons Supermarkets spokeswoman Dana Ward on Monday. "These locations will close no later than Jan. 2, 2027."

But she said the company will try to place as many workers as possible in other stores.
When asked why the two stores will close, she said the lease is coming to an end.

"Like all retailers, we regularly evaluate our store portfolio and real estate footprint to ensure we are best positioned to serve customers and operate efficiently," she said. "With the lease for these locations coming to an end, we made the decision to focus our resources on other locations."
Earlier this summer, an Acme in Edgewater closed, and has since been replaced by a Shoprite. (Read more about that here.)
Ward said, "Our goal is to place as many associates as possible in other stores. Our Human Resources and Labor Relations Teams will be working diligently with each affected associate and his or her labor union to find other work, wherever possible, that is consistent with the applicable law or labor agreement. Anyone who is unable to secure a job will be eligible for severance in accordance with applicable laws."
There are currently 16 Kings locations in New Jersey.
