We often hear about the promises and risks of AI, but not much about the infrastructure behind it. Join us at the Iselin Library, August 6 at 7PM to learn how the fast growth of generative AI is driving a surge in data centers, which are the "lifeblood" of this technology, and these centers bring costs that hit close to home.
This non-partisan talk explains in simple terms:
• What generative AI is and who the major players are
• How the data centers behind it work, and why they use so much energy and water
• The local impact: New Jersey's high electricity bills, new grid strain, and air and noise pollution
• The transparency gap: little regulation or public reporting on any of it
