Since its founding, the Chamber has worked to:

  • Advocate for minority entrepreneurs
  • Expand access to capital and contracting opportunities
  • Provide training, certification guidance, and business development resources
  • Build strategic partnerships with corporations, government agencies, and financial institutions

Through a hands-on, relationship-driven model, the Chamber continues to create pathways for small businesses to scale and compete in New York’s highly competitive marketplace.

Founder Background

The Chamber was founded by Phil Andrews, a nationally recognized leader in economic empowerment and small business development.

A Brooklyn native, Andrews serves as:

  • Founding President of the New York City Minority Small Business Chamber of Commerce
  • President of the Long Island African American Chamber of Commerce, Inc.
  • Founding President of the 100 Black Men of Eastern New York, Inc.
  • Founder of the African American Small Business Foundation, Inc.

He was named the 2019 Small Business Champion by the U.S. Small Business Administration for the New York Metro District, recognizing his impact across 14 counties.

With decades of experience, Andrews has built a reputation for connecting minority businesses to capital, corporate partnerships, and government opportunities—while mentoring the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Why This Campaign Matters

New York City represents one of the largest and most diverse minority small business markets in the United States, with a dense concentration of African American, Latino, Caribbean, and immigrant-owned enterprises.

However, despite this economic strength, minority-owned businesses often face systemic barriers, including:

  • Limited access to capital
  • Challenges securing government and corporate contracts
  • Regulatory hurdles
  • Lack of scalable networks

The Chamber’s recruitment campaign is designed to directly address these gaps by building a unified ecosystem of support, advocacy, and opportunity.

“New York City is home to one of the most powerful minority business communities in the nation,” said Andrews. “This campaign ensures those businesses are not only represented—but resourced, connected, and positioned to grow and scale in today’s economy.”

Building the Largest Minority Business Network

The NYCMSBCC is positioning itself to become a leading voice and force multiplier for minority entrepreneurs by:

  • Expanding membership across industries
  • Strengthening procurement pipelines
  • Increasing access to funding and financial literacy programs
  • Hosting high-impact networking events, workshops, and business forums

By aligning entrepreneurs with decision-makers and capital sources, the Chamber aims to unlock billions in untapped economic potential within minority communities.

Call to Action

Minority-owned businesses, entrepreneurs, and professionals are encouraged to join the Chamber and take part in this transformative initiative.

Membership offers access to:

  • Strategic business connections
  • Training and certification programs
  • Advocacy at local and state levels
  • Opportunities for growth, scaling, and long-term sustainability
