BAY SHORE, NY — A Bay Shore woman will spend the rest of her life in prison after being sentenced for orchestrating the kidnapping and killing of a man whose only offense was parking outside her home, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

Kayla Alvarenga, 23, was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison without the possibility of parole after a jury previously found her guilty of first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, second-degree robbery, and fourth-degree conspiracy, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said.

Prosecutors said the killing stemmed from a confrontation just before midnight on Sept. 17, 2022, outside Alvarenga’s home on Fifth Avenue in Bay Shore.

According to the evidence at trial, Linver Ortiz Ponce, 29, of Central Islip, had parked his red Chevrolet Camaro on the street when Alvarenga confronted him and ordered him to move.

After the dispute, prosecutors said Alvarenga contacted Christopher Perdomo, 28, of Glen Cove, along with several teenage co-defendants, instructing them to go to her home and remove the victim.

Perdomo and three adolescents, ages 16 and 17, arrived in a BMW that had been stolen hours earlier during a carjacking in Bay Shore, prosecutors said.

The group dragged Ortiz Ponce from his car while he slept, beat him, and stole his vehicle, according to the DA’s office.

Ortiz Ponce fled on foot to a nearby gas station, where he attempted to hide behind parked vehicles.

Prosecutors said Alvarenga then escalated the situation further, directing her co-defendants to find, abduct, and kill him.

Alvarenga and two adolescent co-defendants drove the victim’s Camaro, while Perdomo and three others followed in the stolen BMW in search of Ortiz Ponce.

Surveillance video captured the victim being abducted at gunpoint at the gas station and forced into the BMW, DA said.

Prosecutors said Alvarenga then directed the group to a church parking lot, where the victim was repeatedly beaten.

Perdomo ultimately shot Ortiz Ponce multiple times as he attempted to crawl away, killing him, prosecutors said.

After the shooting, the group fled in both vehicles, later abandoning the Camaro in a wooded area in Smithtown and the BMW in Brentwood.

They then used a rideshare to return to Alvarenga’s home, where money from the victim’s wallet was divided among them, according to prosecutors.

Perdomo was later apprehended in Georgia in May 2024.

He pleaded guilty in September 2025 to first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping, second-degree robbery, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon, DA said, and was sentenced to 20 years to life in prison.

Five adolescent co-defendants also pleaded guilty. All other participants in the crime have now been sentenced, prosecutors said.

Alvarenga was represented by defense attorney Jonathan Manley, who was not immediately available for a request for comment.

“A man is dead because he parked in front of the wrong house,” Tierney said. “This defendant orchestrated his kidnapping and murder, directed co-defendants to hunt him down, and used minors to get it done.”
