LI Man Stabbed Ex-Wife 20+ Times Day After Protection Order: DA

BAY SHORE, NY — A Brentwood man was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years in prison for stabbing his ex-wife more than 20 times outside a Bay Shore McDonald's one day after she obtained an order of protection against him, Suffolk County prosecutors said.

Willie Curry, 38, was sentenced after pleading guilty in June to second-degree attempted murder, a Class B violent felony, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney said.

According to prosecutors, the victim was stopped at the drive-thru window of the McDonald's at about 8:15 a.m. on Nov. 2, 2024, when Curry approached her vehicle on an electric bicycle.

Curry ran to the open driver's-side window and repeatedly stabbed the woman with a silver folding knife, prosecutors said.

As the victim screamed for help, people in nearby vehicles and inside the restaurant called 911 and yelled at Curry to stop, according to the DA's office.

The attack ended after the woman drove forward a short distance and a witness got out of a vehicle and yelled for Curry to leave her alone, prosecutors said. Another person then went to check on the woman while speaking with a 911 operator.

Curry was arrested near the scene shortly afterward, authorities said.

The victim was stabbed more than 20 times and suffered wounds to her neck, face, chest, leg and hands, prosecutors said. She was taken to South Shore University Hospital, where she received multiple staples and stitches.

The day before the stabbing, the victim had obtained an order of protection against Curry in Family Court, according to prosecutors.

Curry pleaded guilty June 22 before Suffolk County Supreme Court Justice Timothy P. Mazzei.

He was sentenced Sept. 9 to 15 years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.

The Legal Aid Society represented Curry and did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

“The victim did everything the system asks of a survivor," Tierney said. "She broke ties with the defendant, went to court and obtained an order of protection. One day later, this defendant stabbed her more than 20 times in broad daylight. The plea and sentence reflect the seriousness of that violence, and I hope the victim can find some comfort knowing that the defendant will be unable to harm her or others for the next 15 years."
