 along with our skilled volunteers as they once again bring banding to our own backyard. Watch live bird banding in action; learn what data is recorded; and enjoy a rare up-close encounter with some of our local bird species.
This demonstration at Bylane Farm is a great opportunity to learn more about our MAPS (Monitoring Avian Productivity &amp; Survivorship) Station in the Hunt-Parker Sanctuary and Bedford Audubon’s contributions to this important research. This is a family-friendly event, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

Mark your calendar for New Canaan’s biggest weekend of the summer !
Friday the 17th kicks things off with the sidewalk sale. Local stores set up right outside their doors with once-a-year deals on some of their best inventory. Get there early and you’ll have first pick.
Saturday the 18th is the main event — three streets turned into a pedestrian mall packed with bargains, food, live music, and enough kids’ activities to wear out even the most energetic five-year-old.
Here’s what’s waiting for you downtown.
Shop the Sale
Storefronts up and down Elm, Main, and Forest put out their best deals of the year for the sidewalk sale. Bring a bag and budget more time than you think you’ll need — this isn’t a quick stop.
Meet Your Favorite Nonprofits
Local nonprofit groups will have tables set up throughout the fair. Stop by, say hello, and hear what they’re working on. It’s a good excuse to learn what’s happening in town beyond the shopping.
The YMCA Family Fun Area
Head to Main and Elm for the YMCA’s Family Fun Area, the go-to spot for kids all weekend. On deck: bungee jumping, airbrush tattoos, a family photo booth, arts and crafts, and prizes.

Fan favorite Gary Sirico returns with his balloon animals — a fair tradition that always draws a crowd. A face painter will be on hand for anyone who wants a new look for the day, and a psychic will be reading for anyone curious what’s next.

Mark your calendar for New Canaan’s biggest weekend of the summer !
Friday the 17th kicks things off with the sidewalk sale....

This two-part program begins at Bylane Farm, where Naturalist Tait Johansson
 will provide an introduction to shorebird identification and ecology, exploring the field marks, habitat preferences, foraging strategies, and behaviors that distinguish these diverse and highly adapted species. Participants will learn how to recognize key groups of shorebirds and gain insight into the remarkable migrations that bring them through our region each year.
We’ll then apply these concepts during a field visit to Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. Timed to coincide with high tide, when feeding birds are concentrated on the East Pond, the outing offers an exceptional opportunity to study hundreds of Short-billed Dowitchers, Semipalmated Sandpipers, Least Sandpipers, and a variety of other shorebird species at close range. By combining classroom instruction with field observation, this program provides a deeper understanding of shorebird ecology while helping participants develop the skills needed to identify these challenging birds in the field.

Join us for a multi-faceted celebration of the Hammond’s most popular residents, our Frogs. Great for all ages.

10-11:30am Meet our Frog Friends with Chris Evers of Animal Embassy
Learn about the lives of frogs from naturalist Chris Evers. Accompanied by live exotic frogs and followed by a visit to the frogs in the Hammond’s Japanese Stroll Garden, Chris explains about the many kinds of frogs in the world and what a frog’s life is like.

11:30am-12:15pm Lunch and Leaping
Take a break for lunch (Lunchboxes available for purchase while supplies last) and join the Leap Frog Competition. Let loose your inner Frog!

12:30–1pm Puppet Performance: Frogs Make Me Hoppy
Celebrate the sights and sounds of spring with a special frog-themed program led by puppeteer Adelka Polak of Sova Theater! Through an engaging and imaginative mini puppet performance, Adelka will bring the fascinating life cycle of a frog to life, guiding audiences from tiny eggs floating in a pond to wriggling tadpoles and finally to fully grown frogs. Along the way, children will discover how frogs grow, change, and thrive in their natural habitats. Filled with charming puppets, storytelling, movement, and original music by Cynthia Quintanal and Paul Opalach, this interactive performance offers a fun and memorable way to learn about nature, metamorphosis, and the wonders of frogs!

Pick one of three great activities to explore frogs in art and culture.
Hop, Create, &amp; Play: Frog Puppets with Adelka Polak
Join Adelka Polak and hop into a creative adventure as we design and build our own frog puppets! In this fun, hands-on workshop, young artists will learn about frogs and their habitats while exploring the art of puppet-making. Using a variety of colorful materials, participants will create unique frog characters, add their own imaginative details, and discover how to bring their puppets to life
through movement and storytelling. Each child will leave with a one-of-a-kind frog puppet and the skills to continue the fun at home!
Clay Frog Fun with Carlise Azmitia
Create your own frog sculpture using air-dry clay while learning simple hand-building techniques such as rolling, pinching, and shaping. Students will add fun details and textures to make their frog unique. Pieces can be painted at home once it dries. A creative and hands-on project perfect for children and adults of all skill levels!
Frog Stories and Myths from Around the World
Hear stories about frogs, learn frog songs, and consider the symbolic meanings associated with frogs from many different cultures. For all ages
