4 Brentwood Musicians Earn Statewide Honors At Syracuse Symposium
Brentwood musicians chosen through auditions, NYSSMA scores for elite ensembles.

BRENTWOOD, NY — Four Brentwood student musicians were selected to represent their school at the New York State Band Directors Association’s 45th Annual Symposium in Syracuse, earning spots in highly competitive statewide honor ensembles.
Adrian Cepeda (percussion), Brenda Morales (bass clarinet), and Joshua Ruiz (alto saxophone) were chosen for the High School Honor Band, while Joellie Pena (trombone) was selected for the High School Honor Jazz Ensemble.
Students were selected through a competitive process that included application materials, audition results, and scores from the New York State School Music Association.

The multi-day symposium brought together top high school musicians from across New York for an immersive experience focused on performance and growth. Students began rehearsals upon arrival and worked intensively throughout the weekend, culminating in a final concert performance.
Participants also took part in leadership workshops and collaborated with contemporary composers, gaining exposure to advanced musical techniques and professional-level instruction.

Music teacher Christina Helbock said the Brentwood students came prepared and made meaningful contributions to their respective ensembles.
