Police Fatally Shoot Knife-Wielding Man On Brooklyn Bridge

BROOKLYN, NY — A knife-wielding man was fatally shot by police on the Brooklyn Bridge early Friday morning.

Officers responded to the scene just before 3:30 a.m. and saw the knife-wielding man walking on the cables of the bridge.

Multiple attempts by police and emergency personnel to talk the man down proved unsuccessful.

The man allegedly told police: “I want to die. I want you to kill me. I have a bomb. You’re not going to make me do something bad to the cops.”

He then began to climb down from the cables but still refused to drop the knife after multiple commands.

An officer at the scene fired his gun once striking the man.

The man was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.

He was later pronounced dead, police said.

The bridge was closed to traffic after the incident. The Brooklyn-bound side of the bridge reopened around 8:30 a.m.
