Truck Fire Shuts Down Lanes On Brooklyn-Queens Expressway

BROOKLYN, NY— A truck caught fire Monday afternoon on the eastbound Brooklyn-Queens Expressway near Flushing Avenue, blocking all eastbound lanes and gridlocking traffic through the area.

The call came in at 4:28 p.m., according to the fire department.

Two engine companies and two ladder companies responded and extinguished the blaze.

No injuries were reported.

The New York City Police Department posted at 5:27 p.m. that “all lanes are blocked eastbound on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway past Flushing Avenue” because of the vehicle fire.

Firefighters remained at the scene for more than an hour after the initial call. The incident closed at 5:56 p.m.

Authorities did not immediately provide a cause for the fire or report when normal traffic conditions would fully return.
