Wall Collapse, Fire Rips Through Brooklyn Building

A fast-moving fire tore through a three-story building in East Williamsburg late Sunday night, injuring three firefighters and causing part of the structure to collapse, fire officials said.

The blaze broke out just before 10 p.m. on Grand Street between Catherine Street and Morgan Avenue, where a business occupies the ground floor and apartments sit above.

Fire officials said flames started on the first floor and quickly raced through the building, extending into a neighboring structure.

As conditions worsened, crews pulled back and shifted to an exterior attack when the building became unstable.

Part of the front wall collapsed into the street, while another section gave way in the rear, raising concerns about surrounding buildings.

Despite the intensity of the fire, all occupants made it out safely, officials said.

Three firefighters were taken to a hospital: one with moderate injuries and two with minor injuries. All are expected to recover.

More than 200 emergency responders worked for hours to contain the blaze, which was brought under control early Monday morning.

Fire marshals are investigating the cause.
