About the Event

Help transform the street into a large community chalk mural alongside artists, neighbors, and visitors from across New York City.

This is an informal, drop-in community art experience. Participants may arrive anytime between 10 AM and 2 PM, pick up some chalk, and contribute to the mural at their own pace.

There is no scheduled class, registration requirement, or previous art experience needed.

The event is open to all ages. The Art Meetup is also working to create more public spaces where adults can make art, meet new people, build friendships, and feel connected to their local creative community.

What to Expect

  • A collaborative community chalk mural
  • Chalk available while supplies last
  • Local artists, neighbors, families, and volunteers
  • Beginner-friendly participation
  • Opportunities to meet The Art Meetup team
  • A relaxed environment where visitors may stay briefly or spend several hours creating

Participants may draw, write positive messages, create patterns, collaborate with others, volunteer, or simply watch the mural grow throughout the day.

Donations Make This Event Possible

This mural is presented in partnership with NYC DOT Open Streets, but The Art Meetup is responsible for producing and covering the costs of the activation.

Donations directly help pay for:

  • Local chalk artists
  • Welcome assistants
  • Chalk and participant supplies
  • Water
  • Signage and wayfinding
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Transportation and production materials
  • Everything needed to keep the mural safe, organized, and welcoming

Please consider contributing $5, $10, $25, or any amount you are able to give.

Even a small donation helps us purchase more chalk, support local workers, prepare for attendance, and continue creating accessible public art experiences across New York City.

There is no required donation to attend or participate. Those who are able to contribute help make it possible for everyone, including those who cannot donate, to join the event.
