East Islip Robotics Team Earns National Bid After Strong Finish At LI Championship

The Flaming Hot Legos placed fourth overall on Long Island and earned multiple awards, securing a spot at a national robotics competition.

EAST ISLIP, NY — A trio of East Islip students is heading to the national stage after turning in an impressive performance at a regional robotics championship this month.

East Islip’s Flaming Hot Legos robotics team — made up of Acelyn Garcia and Avery Garcia of John F. Kennedy Elementary School, along with Sonali Kamath of East Islip Middle School — competed in the FIRST Long Island LEGO League Regional Championship Tournament at Hicksville High School.

The competition featured the top 30 teams out of 140 that participated throughout the season, testing students on robot design, performance, and problem-solving.

The Flaming Hot Legos stood out across all categories. The team navigated multiple rounds of robot performance and delivered a 30-minute presentation to a panel of judges, highlighting both their technical skills and teamwork.

By the end of the event, the team earned a fourth-place overall finish on Long Island. They also secured third place in Robot Performance and second place in Robot Design.
