LONG ISLAND, NY — After days of snow and ice, Long Islanders woke to rain on Thursday morning.

And those hoping for a hint of spring shouldn't expect to see the sun again anytime soon, according to a recent report by the National Weather Service.

Thursday

Rain, mainly after 8 a.m.. Patchy fog. High near 38. Calm wind becoming northeast 5 to 7 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Thursday night

Rain. Patchy fog. Low around 32. Wind chill values between 25 and 30. Northeast wind 7 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100 percent. New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Friday

Rain likely, mainly before 7 a.m. Patchy fog before 10 a.m. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 40. Wind chill values between 25 and 35. Northeast wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

A 20 percent chance of rain after 1 a.m.. Cloudy, with a low around 32. Northeast wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.
