• EPIC Long Island opens new Bethpage center (libn.com) — An East Meadow-based nonprofit, EPIC Long Island, is expanding its support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities by opening a new vocational training center in Bethpage. The facility includes an indoor garden created with Smile Farms, where participants can learn gardening, job skills, and build confidence through hands-on work that may lead to competitive employment.
   

• Blakeman bows to NY law limiting cooperation with ICE (wamc.org) — Nassau County's jail in East Meadow is at the center of a new state law that bans local police from formally partnering with federal immigration authorities and holding people for ICE. County Executive Bruce Blakeman says he'll comply with the law but still encourage cooperation, while Gov. Kathy Hochul defends the restrictions as a way to curb aggressive enforcement and refocus police on local crime.
