Police Identify 70-Year-Old Pedestrian Who Died After Struck By Car In East Meadow, Police Say

NCPD says the man was crossing Hempstead Turnpike when he was struck.

EAST MEADOW, NY — Police have identified the 70-year-old pedestrian who died after being struck while crossing a road in East Meadow on Tuesday night, NCPD said.

Nassau County police said Robert McAteer of West Islip was crossing Hempstead Turnpike in the vicinity of Franklin Avenue when he was struck by a 2014 Toyota Camry driven by a 70-year-old woman traveling eastbound on Hempstead Turnpike.

McAteer was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased by a doctor, NCPD said.
