Shake Shack To Open Another Long Island Location

This popular burger chain's location will feature a drive-thru.

EAST MEADOW, NY — Shake Shack is adding another location on Long Island, and this time, in East Meadow.

The popular burger-and-milkshake chain has set up shop on Hempstead Turnpike, just a few feet away from a family-run burger joint, Burger City. The two businesses will even share a parking lot.

Although an official opening date hasn't been released yet, lights have been turned on inside the establishment. Signage has been seen since earlier this month. Shake Shack did not immediately respond to Patch's request for comment.

This location joins three other Nassau County locations, Westbury, New Hyde Park, and Oceanside, and five Suffolk County locations, Melville, Sun Vet, Lake Grove, Selden, and Tanger Riverhead.

The East Meadow Shake Shack is proposed to have a drive-thru, a feature that had to be approved by the Town of Hempstead Board of Zoning Appeals.

Town of Hempstead Communications Director Brian Devine told Patch that the Board of Zoning Appeals granted a special use permit to the incoming tenant in early 2025. He stated that the Board of Zoning Appeals is separate and independent from the Hempstead Town Board.

"The Town Board's only role in this process is to make sure that any incoming tenant conforms to the strictures of Town Code," Devine said. "Any further questions regarding choice of tenant would best be answered by the landlord, as that would solely be under their discretion."

The Town of Hempstead Board of Zoning Appeals was not immediately available for comment when Patch reached out.
