Toddler, Mother Struck By Truck In Farmingdale; Driver Arrested After Fleeing Scene: Police

FARMINGDALE, NY — A man was arrested after he was accused of striking a two-year-old boy and the boy's mother while driving in Farmingdale – and fleeing the scene, police said.

On Wednesday at 3:51 p.m., a toddler and his mother, 28, were near Conklin Street when the boy "unexpectedly ran into the roadway," and the mother tried to get him, Nassau County police said.

A 1998 Peterbilt that was traveling eastbound on Conklin Street, struck both of them, and continued to travel eastbound, according to police.

The toddler suffered an abrasion to his leg, and his mother suffered injuries to her hip and legs – both were transported to a nearby hospital, police said.

Upon investigation, Elvin Majano Diaz, 27, of Central Islip, was arrested, according to police. He was charged with leaving the scene of an incident with injury and was issued an appearance ticket returnable on August 21 at First District Court in Hempstead, police said.

According to police, the truck was impounded for a brake and safety check.
