FIRE ISLAND, NY — A blaze broke out in a shed on Fire Island's Ocean Beach Friday afternoon, police said.

According to Suffolk County police, marine bureau officers helped extinguish the house fire on Bay Walk at about 3:30 p.m.

The fire broke out in a shed, next to a house located on Bay Walk; Ocean Beach Police Department officers responded and requested assistance from the Suffolk County Police Department and local fire departments once the fire started spreading, officials said.

Officers from Marine Alpha, Juliette, Marine 1, and Marine 3 responded, police said.

Officers deployed their pump and fire hoses to douse the flames, and help prevent the fire from spreading, police said.

Aviation section officers responded, and alerted the officers and firefighters to potential hot spots to also stop the spread, police said.

The investigation is continuing, but detectives believe the cause of the fire to be non-criminal, police said.
