Man And Woman Arrested After Attempting To Flee Traffic Stop On Stolen Moped: PD

INWOOD, NY — A Brooklyn man and woman are facing assault and resisting arrest charges Thursday after a traffic stop on the moped they were riding became “aggressive,” police said.

Nassau County police said 40-year-old Nicole Demmerele and 18-year-old Jason Adams were riding a moped in Inwood Wednesday night, just after 6:15 p.m., when police made a traffic stop.

According to police, Demmerele and Adams became “aggressive” as police approached the moped, and Adams attempted to drive away. Police then arrested Demmerele while Adams fled the scene of the stop on foot, police said.

From there, a K9 unit was called to the scene and the search for Adams ended shortly thereafter in his arrest, police said.

According to police, the incident left two police officers with injuries after Adams and Demmerele, “were both violent and combative while resisting arrest.” Demmerele and the injured police officers were hospitalized for evaluation and treatment, police said.

Investigation into the moped would later reveal that it had been stolen from New York City, police said.

Thursday, Adams is facing one count of second-degree assault, one count of fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, a count of resisting arrest and multiple traffic infractions, police said. Demmerele, meanwhile, is facing a second-degree assault charge and a charge of second-degree resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration, police said.
