Brooklyn Man Injures, Spits At Cops While Resisting DWI Arrest, Officers Hospitalized: Police

A Brooklyn man was arrested Sunday morning after he spat at and injured police officers while resisting arrest, police said.

LAWRENCE, NY β€” A Brooklyn man is facing assault and DWI charges this week after he β€œbecame combative and spat at” police officers who found him sleeping and intoxicated in his car, police said.

Nassau County Police said they responded to a call for a stopped vehicle near the intersection of Nassau Expressway and Rock Hall Road Sunday morning at 5:48 a.m., finding 35-year-old Bleecker Street resident Luis Chiguano Cuchiparte asleep behind the wheel of the car.

Police tried to wake Cuchiparte up when they found him, at which point the encounter turned hostile, police said. Cuchiparte became violent during the encounter, with two officers suffering injuries that would later send them to the hospital, police said. Police also said that Cuchiparte spat at the officers while attempting to resist his arrest.

Ultimately, Cuchiparte was arrested and an investigation revealed that he was intoxicated at the time of the incident, police said. Cuchiparte was also taken to the hospital for evaluation, police said.

In the aftermath of Sunday’s incident, Cuchiparte is being charged with two counts of assault, one count of DWI, one count of second-degree obstructing governmental administration, one count of resisting arrest, one count of second-degree harassment, one count of open alcohol containers in a vehicle, and a traffic infraction, police said.
