Rosedale Man Arrested For Assault After Striking Woman At North Lawrence Grocery Store, PD Says
A Queens man was arrested and charged with assault after striking a woman at a grocery store Tuesday, police say.
LAWRENCE, NY — A Rosedale man is facing an assault charge Wednesday after striking a woman as she left a Lawrence Stop and Shop Tuesday afternoon, police said.
Nassau County police said 27-year-old Samuel Hankins struck the 37-year-old woman in the arm and back of the head with a blunt object as she was leaving the grocery store just after noon, and then fled the scene. The woman was hospitalized in stable condition while police found Hankins near the grocery store and arrested him, police said.
Police did not say why Hankins struck the woman, but said an investigation into the incident was ongoing. Hankins is charged with second-degree assault, police said, and is scheduled for arraignment Wednesday.
