Queens College To Host Panel On 9/11’s Impact 25 Years Later

FLUSHING, NY — Queens College will host a panel discussion, “Tragedy, Trauma, and Transformation: The 9/11 Catastrophe 25 Years Later,” on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

The panel will examine the long-term effects of the Sept. 11 attacks on U.S. foreign policy, public health and New York City.

The event will run from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom and virtually.

Distinguished Lecturer James Vacca of Urban Studies will moderate.

Panelists will include Peter Lieberman, professor and chair of Political Science, who will discuss anger and retributive responses to 9/11 and U.S. foreign policy; Steven Markowitz, professor and director of the Barry Commoner Center for Health and the Environment, who will address health effects on people involved in clearing the World Trade Center site and nearby residents; and Melissa Checker, professor and chair of Urban Studies, who will examine the redevelopment of Downtown and broader changes to New York City after 9/11.

A question-and-answer session will follow the presentations. The Queens College Student Association will also present a video, and complimentary kosher pizza will be available.
