The Roosevelt Union Free School District is honoring its Board of Education in recognition of School Board Recognition Week, held October 12-16.

ROOSEVELT, NEW YORK (October 2026) — The Roosevelt Union Free School District is honoring
its Board of Education in recognition of School Board Recognition Week, held October 12-16, in
appreciation of the time, leadership, and service trustees dedicate to students, families, and the larger
community. Through their thoughtful decisions and commitment to student achievement, the Board helps
advance the district’s vision and align resources with student needs.
The district thanks School Board President Mrs. Charlena H. Croutch, 1 st Vice President Dr. Regina L.
Williams, 2 nd Vice President Mr. Kenneth Ware, Trustee Dr. Emily Moore, Trustee Mrs. Veronica L.
Walters, and student ex-officio member Ms. Destynee Allen for their service.
Additionally, the district congratulates Mrs. Croutch on her unanimously approved appointment to the
Nassau-Suffolk School Boards Association (N-SSBA) Executive Committee. This exciting leadership
opportunity brings Roosevelt’s perspective to a regional table dedicated to strengthening public
education. The association brings school boards across Nassau and Suffolk counties together to advocate
for education legislation, share successful programs and practices, and collaborate on challenges facing
their districts. Mrs. Croutch’s appointment creates another opportunity to ensure that our students’ needs,
our families’ voices, and our community’s priorities are represented in important regional conversations
about education.
The district also extends congratulations to Mr. Ware on his appointment to the REFIT Board of
Directors. REFIT—Reform Educational Financing Inequities Today—is a consortium of school districts
advocating for a fairer distribution of New York State education aid. REFIT works to reform school
funding so that districts with greater student needs and limited local resources receive more equitable
support, while addressing the heavy reliance on property taxes to make up gaps in state aid. This
advocacy helps advance the resources schools need to serve students and expand educational
opportunities. Mr. Ware’s appointment brings Roosevelt’s voice to this important work, connecting our
community to a shared effort to make school funding more responsive to student needs.
“Please join us in congratulating Board President Mrs. Charlena Croutch and 2 nd Vice President Mr.
Kenneth Ware as they take on these meaningful leadership roles,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Shawn

Wightman said. “I extend my sincere thanks to our Board of Education trustees for their dedicated service
to Roosevelt and their commitment to empowering our students’ futures.”
