Town Of Hempstead Extends Pool, Beach Hours Ahead Of Heat Wave

Residents can visit cooling centers, pools, spray pads and beaches to stay cool during this week's heat wave.

TOWN OF HEMPSTEAD, NY — To stay cool during this week's heat wave on Long Island, the Town of Hempstead has extended the hours of its Town beaches and pools.

Starting on Wednesday through Thursday, July 16, Town beaches will remain open until 7 p.m. and Town pools until 8 p.m.

"With dangerously high temperatures returning to our region, we want to ensure residents have safe and accessible places to cool down," Supervisor John Ferretti said.

Ferretti added that the Town has made significant investments in its parks, pools, and beaches for its residents.

  • Limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest hours of the day.
  • Stay hydrated.
  • Wear lightweight and light-colored clothing.
  • Never leave children or pets unattended inside a vehicle.
  • Check on elderly neighbors, friends, and loved ones.
