This Week Crime In Garden City: Garden City High School Bomb Threat, Faulty Fire Alarms, And Vaping
The Village of Garden City details its weekly crime report.

GARDEN CITY, NY — The Incorporated Village of Garden City released its crime report for the week ending Monday, June 15.

The items reported took place between June 10 and June 15 and are as follows:

June 15:
- GCPD responded to a Garden City residence for a package larceny, totaling $217. Detectives are investigating.
- GCPD and GCFD both responded to Franklin Ave. for a fire call. It was determined that the alarm was triggered due to an air freshener.
June 14:

- GCPD officers & GCFD responded to Old Country Rd. for a report of a fire. The resident had a BBQ grill too close to the house. A firefighter suffered from smoke inhalation, and the Fire Marshal deemed the fire accidental.
- GCPD and GCFD responded to Devereux Pl. for a fire call. It was determined that the alarm was triggered due to steam from the shower.
June 13:
- GCPD officers responded to Garden City High School for the report of a possible bomb threat received by Homeland Security via email. Officers searched the exterior and interior of the school and found no credible threat. After a thorough investigation, GCPD Detectives arrested a 22-year-old Franklin Square man for charges related to falsely reporting an incident and stalking.
- A resident reported that his garage door was found open, and a bicycle was missing. He had an attached Apple AirTag on the bicycle, which was located in Hempstead and returned to the owner without incident.
June 12:
- GCPD officers responded to the Cherry Valley Country Club for a report of gas-powered leaf blowers in use. Warning issued.
- Officers assisted with de-escalating a billing dispute between a resident and the Village Finance Department at Village Hall.
- GCPD arrested a 45-year-old Massapequa man after he operated a vehicle with a suspended NYS driver's license.
June 11:
- Officers responded to the Ethical Humanist Society for a report of a possible larceny of two chairs. Detectives are investigating.
- GCPD and GCFD responded to a Garden City residence for an automatic fire alarm, deemed to be a faulty alarm.
June 10:
- A resident reported a text message asking to withdraw $49,500 from a bank account. The resident believed the text message to be legitimate and went to Chase Bank to withdraw the money. Chase Bank flagged the text message as a scam, and the resident is not at a loss at this time.
- GCPD and GCFD responded to a Franklin Ave. business for an automatic fire alarm deemed to be set off due to vaping.
- A resident reported that a rear screened-in porch door was found open and damaged, as well as a second screened-in porch door found ajar. The resident reported no property missing from the porch or the interior of the residence and estimates damage to the door at $400. Detectives are investigating.
