The Harlem Chamber Players celebrates its 19th anniversary season with a free NYC Composers Concert, featuring the world premiere of Carman Moore’s To Mars and Beyond for tenor saxophone and string quartet. The performance continues the celebration of the acclaimed composer and conductor’s 90th birthday.
The program also includes Don Byron’s String Quartet No. 2: “Four Thoughts on Marvin Gaye”; Norman Weiss’ Reverie for oboe and string quartet; Tommy James’ 4ths and Mains for two bassoons; and Eddie Venegas’ Viaje de Cantos (Journey of Chants) for string nonet.
Dr. Vanessa Valdés will offer a special tribute to Raoul Abdul , the former Amsterdam News music critic and early supporter of “Music at St. Mary’s,” the concert series launched by Liz Player and Charles Dalton that became The Harlem Chamber Players. A post reception will follow the concert.
