Man, 22, Dies In Police Custody In East Harlem, Police Say

The NYPD's Force Investigation Division — which examines whether officers used improper force on a civillian — is now investigating.

EAST HARLEM, NY — A 22-year-old man died while in police custody in East Harlem over the weekend, New York City Police Department officials told Patch.

On Saturday at 5:13 p.m. at 124 East 116th St., a 22-year-old man was "acting erratic" and had difficulty breathing, police said. Police did not say what led up to the arrest.

The man was taken to NYC Health and Hospitals/Harlem, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

The man's name is being withheld until the family can be properly notified.
