Pedestrian Killed In East Harlem Hit-And-Run: NYPD

EAST HARLEM, NY — A 53-year-old man died after being struck by a car in East Harlem Monday night, and the driver fled the scene before being located by police on the Upper East Side, New York City Police Department officials said.

Officers responded to a 911 call reporting a crash at East 127th Street and Second Avenue around 10:37 p.m. on Monday. When officers arrived, they found the 53-year-old pedestrian lying in the roadway with severe head and body injuries.

According to the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad, a 49-year-old man driving a 2009 Chrysler 300 was heading downtown on Second Avenue when he struck the pedestrian, causing the man to fall into the roadway.

EMS transported the victim to NYC Health + Hospitals/Harlem, where he was pronounced dead.

Police said the driver did not remain at the scene but was later located on East 78th Street. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is underway, police said.

The victim's identity is being kept private until his family can be properly notified, police said.
