3 Kids In Car When I-287 Driver Arrested On Aggravated DWI Charges By Troopers

HARRISON, NY — A Stamford man was arrested in Westchester County for potentially putting the life of a 3 children at risk, according to state police.

The New York State Police say that troopers from Tarrytown arrested 38-year-old Gilberto Valdovinos-Gonzalez, of Stamford, Connecticut, for three counts of aggravated DWI with a passenger less than 16 years of age.

On Sunday, shortly after 2 a.m., troopers stopped a 2016 GMC Yukon driving east on I-287, in the village of Harrison.

When speaking with the driver, identified as Valdovinos-Gonzalez, troopers noticed signs of impairment, according to police. He was administered standard field sobriety tests, which he failed, according to NYSP.

The troopers say that three children under the age of 16 were also in the vehicle at the time of the stop.

Valdovinos-Gonzalez was charged with three counts of DWI Leandra's Law and issued several tickets for vehicle/traffic law violations. He was released to a sober third party and is due in Harrison Town Court on May 26.

The New York State Police urge drivers to use the STOP-DWI Have a Plan app to help them get home safely. The free app allows users to contact a taxi service or ride share, program a designated-driver list, or report a suspected impaired driver. The app is available for Apple and Android smart phones.
