HUNTINGTON, NY — A Huntington street where a longtime local businessman spent decades serving the community now bears his family's name.

The Town of Huntington dedicated Union Place as Sorrentino Way on Oct. 18, honoring Andrea and Luisa Sorrentino during a ceremony followed by the inaugural Sorrentino Family Foundation Italian Festival and Block Party.

The celebration brought residents and vendors together on Union Place to celebrate Italian heritage and remember the couple, whose contributions to the Huntington community spanned generations.

He and his wife, Luisa, were also the parents of Huntington Highway Superintendent Andre Sorrentino.

Luisa died May 5, 2026, at age 87. Andrea died June 18, 2026, at age 90.

In its resolution honoring the couple, the Town of Huntington recognized their lasting impact on the community.

"Andrea and Luisa Sorrentino devoted their lives to one another, their family, their faith, and the Huntington community, leaving an enduring legacy of hard work, generosity, perseverance, and community spirit that touched countless lives throughout the Town of Huntington," the resolution stated.

The dedication added the Sorrentino name to a street sign at the corner of Wall Street and Union Place, memorializing the couple in the neighborhood where Andrea built his business.

The Italian festival, organized by the Sorrentino Family Foundation, followed the dedication and was intended to celebrate the family's legacy while bringing the community together through Italian culture and traditions.

Organizers hope the inaugural celebration will become an annual Huntington tradition.
