Huntington resident Peter Klein To Be Honored August 3rd

Peter Klein, a Huntington resident and president of the Claire Friedlander Family Foundation, will be honored by Long Island Select Healthcare (lishcare.org) on Monday, Aug. 3, at the Nissequogue Golf Club in Nissequogue.

Long Island Select Healthcare is a 16-specialty Article 28 Federally Qualified Health Center and a New York State Article 16 Rehabilitation Clinic. It has quietly emerged as one of Suffolk County’s most important health resources. According to CEO Aaron Clark, “Long Island Select Healthcare serves anyone who walks through its doors, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.”

Financing of LISH Care is based on the patient’s family income and size, with a mix of funds from Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance. Fundraising efforts are encouraged by the federal government. LISH Care, as a nonprofit organization, has a program for donations and contributions underway.

Observing its 10th anniversary, LISH Care is headquartered in Central Islip with satellite clinics in Hauppauge, Smithtown, Port Jefferson Station, Manorville, Center Moriches and Riverhead.

More than 60% of the LISH Care patient profile is people with developmental disabilities, autism and special needs. This distinguishes LISH Care from other community health centers. Currently, LISH Care has about 9000 patients enrolled. It recorded about 74,500 visits in 2025. About 160 professional service providers and staff members are employed by LISH Care.

The organization was formed when the clinics of three Long Island human services agencies — Developmental Disabilities Institute, Family Residences and Essential Enterprises, and United Cerebral Palsy Association of Greater Suffolk — came together to address a persistent gap in health care access for people with developmental disabilities.

“For many individuals with disabilities and their families, routine medical care has been anything but routine,” Aaron Clark said. “Finding providers with the training, patience and clinical environment to deliver effective care has been an ongoing challenge. Long Island Select Healthcare was built to solve that problem by recruiting physicians, dentists and specialists who understand how to adapt their approach, communicate effectively and deliver care that meets patients where they are.”

Mr. Klein is the chief investment officer and founder of ALINE Wealth (alinewealth.com), a partner firm at High Tower Advisors in Melville, New York. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Chartered Retirement Plans Specialist (CRPS), Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP) and a Chartered SRI Counselor (CSRIC).

Prior to joining ALINE, he worked at UBS Financial Services and in 2008 was recognized as part of the UBS Global Circle of Excellence. He is the author of “Getting Started in Security Analysis” (John Wiley & Sons, 1998 and 2009) and “A Passion for Giving: Tools and Inspiration for Creating a Charitable Foundation” (with Angelica Berrie, Wiley, 2012).

Mr. Klein serves as co-chairman of Tilles Center on the campus of Long Island University. He is a board member of Life’s WORC in Garden City, Huntington Hospital in Huntington and the Holocaust & Tolerance Center of Nassau County in Glen Cove.

For many years, Mr. Klein was the investment adviser to Claire Friedlander, a Holocaust survivor who immigrated to New York. When she died, she charged Mr. Klein with giving away her fortune through the Claire Friedlander Family Foundation to causes where she had an interest. According to Mr. Klein, “The foundation provides grants to organizations that are passionate about their work and the people they serve, with a focus on impact, collaboration and transformation.”

“The late Claire Friedlander viewed helping people with disabilities achieve dignity and a quality life as a human rights issue,” Mr. Klein said. “LISH Care’s mission to bring medical care to people with developmental disabilities and autism is representative of Ms. Friedlander’s ideals.”
