PSEG Long Island, LIPA Purchase Melville Office Building

MELVILLE, NY — PSEG Long Island and the Long Island Power Authority have purchased a corporate facility in Melville that officials say will help consolidate office locations and reduce long-term operating costs.

The organizations recently closed on the purchase of 1307 Walt Whitman Road, according to an announcement Tuesday.

PSEG Long Island currently occupies several leased spaces, and officials said moving operations into the LIPA-owned facility is expected to reduce duplicative real estate and maintenance expenses while improving the use of office space.

Officials did not disclose the purchase price or estimate how much customers are expected to save.

“Bringing employees together in a shared facility will help us reduce long-term costs, strengthen collaboration and continue delivering the responsive, efficient service our customers expect,” PSEG Long Island President and COO Scott Jennings said.

LIPA is a nonprofit municipal electric provider that owns the electric transmission and distribution system serving about 1.2 million customers across Long Island and the Rockaways.

PSEG Long Island operates the system under a long-term contract with LIPA.

LIPA CEO Carrie Meek Gallagher said owning the property would also provide greater certainty over future occupancy costs.

“This building purchase reinforces LIPA’s commitment to managing costs responsibly and delivering affordability for our customers,” Gallagher said. “Real estate ownership provides greater long-term cost certainty, gives us greater operational control and represents a prudent investment that supports our long-term fiscal sustainability strategy.”
