Swimming Advisory Issued At 20+ Huntington Beaches After Heavy Rain

UNTINGTON, NY — Suffolk County health officials are advising against swimming at more than 20 beaches across the Town of Huntington following heavy rainfall.

The Suffolk County Department of Health Services said bacteria levels at the affected beaches could exceed New York State standards because of stormwater runoff.

The affected beaches are:

Cold Spring Harbor Beach Club Beach, Lloyd Harbor
West Neck Beach, Lloyd Harbor
Lloyd Neck Bath Club Beach, Lloyd Harbor
Lloyd Harbor Village Park Beach, Lloyd Harbor
Gold Star Battalion Park Beach, Huntington
Head of the Bay Club Beach, Huntington Bay
Nathan Hale Beach Club Beach, Huntington Bay
Baycrest Association Beach, Huntington Bay
Bay Hills Beach Association, Huntington Bay
Crescent Beach, Huntington Bay
Camp Alvernia, Centerport
Knollwood Beach Association Beach, Huntington
Fleets Cove Beach, Huntington
Centerport Beach, Centerport
Steers Beach, Northport
Asharoken Beach, Asharoken

Health officials recommend suspending swimming and other water contact until the waters have been flushed by two successive tidal cycles, or at least 24 hours after the rain ends.

The rainfall advisory is expected to be lifted Thursday, Sept. 3, at 7 a.m.

Additionally, Huntington Beach Community Association and Valley Grove Beach in Eatons Neck remain closed to swimming because of high bacteria levels.
