Larchmont, Mamaroneck Voters Will Decide On Proposed School District Budget

Voters have the final say on the 2026-27 school budget, and school board candidates in the Mamaroneck Union Free School District.

LARCHMONT/MAMARONECK, NY — Voters in the Mamaroneck Union Free School District will head to the polls Tuesday, May 19, to vote on the proposed 2026-27 school budget.

The 2026–27 proposed budget of $176,560,406 represents a 4.36 percent budget-to-budget increase and a proposed tax levy increase of 3.07 percent. The budget remains under the tax levy cap.

Voting is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. at local elementary schools, with residents in the Chatsworth Avenue School area voting at Larchmont Avenue Church.

According to the district's budget overview, the 2026-27 plan builds on investments made last year and focuses on efficiency, operational effectiveness and stronger outcomes for students. The district said last year's budget allowed it to continue work in several areas that are now priorities in the new proposal.

Among the focus areas listed for 2026-27 is building a data warehousing infrastructure. According to the budget overview, that work is aimed at improving how the district uses data to support student learning and decision-making. The document says that includes identifying and supporting student needs more effectively, providing clearer and more meaningful progress updates for families, and building greater consistency across classrooms.

The proposal also calls for achieving appropriate staffing levels to meet program and student needs. According to the budget overview, that includes recruiting and retaining strong educators in key subject areas and strengthening support and onboarding for new staff.

Another priority is expanding counseling and student supports. The budget overview says that effort is intended to strengthen services that support student well-being, build skills such as organization, focus and decision-making, and use technology more intentionally to support learning.

The district also lists broader instructional leadership and coaching as a focus for the coming year. According to the budget overview, that includes investing in professional learning for staff and leaders, strengthening coaching to support classroom instruction, and updating evaluation systems to reflect district priorities.

The proposal also calls for growing capital reserves for future facilities and infrastructure needs. The budget overview says that planning includes modernizing learning spaces at Hommocks Middle School to align with the district's 6-12 STEAM curriculum and expanding opportunities for hands-on, interdisciplinary learning that connects middle and high school.

District residents can cast ballots on the budget from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on May 19 at their assigned polling locations.
