April 7: Schools Protect Our Children, LSD Budget Yet to Be Adopted

1. Today starts out with a chance of light rain, mainly before 12 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. The rest of the day should be mostly cloudy with a high temperature near 50 degrees.

2. New York State officials received a school bus terror threat this week, and even though the State Education Department said the threats are "not credible" at this time, Levittown and Island Trees are taking extra safety precautions. Click here to read how both districts responded.

4. The "homeless" Island Trees High School track team has come out victorious once again, improving their record so far this season to 8-0 after a meet at the Wheatley School on Tuesday. Tyler Blauvelt was victorious in both the Triple and the Long Jumps and Peter Tucci won the High Jump while Tamar Ucaner and Matt Holt excelled at shot put. Island Trees swept the top three discus spots, with Stephen Schmidt in first, Joe Stanco in second and Andres Quinterro in third. John Duffy also won the 800 meter race at the MacArthur Invitational Saturday. The Bulldogs will face Valley Stream North Tuesday with first place in conference on the line.
