May 18: Budgets Pass, New Board Members Elected

1. Rain will continue today, according to the National Weather Service. The high is near 65 degrees. 

2. The Levittown School District budget for the 2011-12 school year passed, 2967 to 2414. Michael Pappas and Peter Porrazzo were reelected to the Board of Education, and Frank Ward was also elected to fill the three open spots.

3. The Island Trees School District budget for the 2011-12 school year passed, 894 to 520. Ken Rochon, George Storm, Daniel Donahue and Patricia Mahon were elected to the Island Trees Board of Education.

5. The playoffs are under way. Today, Island Trees varsity baseball plays Lynbrook at Island Trees High School at 4:30 p.m. MacArthur varsity baseball plays Baldwin at 4:30 p.m. (841 Ethel T Kloberg Drive, North Baldwin). MacArthur varsity girls lacrosse plays Farmingdale at 4:30 p.m. (150 Lincoln Street, Farmingdale). Division varsity baseball plays South Side at 4:45 p.m. (Ocean Ave and S. Park Avenue, Lynbrook).
