Man Suffers Facial Burns As Boat Goes Up In Flames In Copiague: FD

COPIAGUE, NY — A man suffered burns to his face after a 27-foot boat caught fire in a Copiague canal Wednesday evening, according to the Copiague fire department.

The Copiague Fire Department was alerted to the boat fire in the canal across from 175 Riviera Drive East at about 5:20 p.m. on Sept. 23.

Chief of Department Daniel Broyles and Assistant Chiefs Frank Guella and Robert Weiss were among the first to respond and were advised someone had also been burned, according to the report.

Fire officials arrived to find the 27-foot boat fully engulfed in flames and a man suffering burns to his face.

Copiague firefighters stretched two hose lines, while crews also used a master stream to battle the blaze. The Lindenhurst Fire Department was requested to provide a boat and an ambulance. The fire was extinguished in about 30 minutes.

The injured man was taken by Lindenhurst Ambulance to Nassau University Medical Center for treatment. His condition was not immediately available.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
