NY State Police To Crack Down On Speeding Drivers For 6 Days

NEW YORK — New York State Police will ramp up patrols across the state beginning Tuesday as part of a six-day traffic enforcement campaign targeting speeding and aggressive driving.

The "Fall Safe Speed" campaign will run from Sept. 22 through Sept. 27. Troopers will also target motorists who violate New York's Move Over Law, according to a State Police news release.

During the campaign, troopers will use both marked patrol cars and Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement (CITE) vehicles, which blend in with regular traffic to help officers identify motorists who violate traffic laws. The vehicles are recognizable as emergency vehicles once their emergency lights are activated.

Speeding is a contributing factor in nearly one-third of all fatal crashes in New York, according to State Police.

In 2024, speed-related crashes resulted in 315 fatal crashes and 12,232 injuries statewide, according to data from the University at Albany's Institute for Traffic Safety Management and Research.

In addition to speeding and aggressive driving, troopers will be watching for motorists who are distracted or impaired, drivers and passengers who are not properly buckled up, and drivers who fail to comply with the Move Over Law.

The enhanced enforcement will supplement regular year-round traffic patrols, State Police said.
