Lynbrook School Budget Passes By Near-600-Vote Margin

The Lynbrook School District released the results of its school district budget and school board election, which took place Tuesday.

LYNBROOK, NY — Results are in for the Lynbrook school board and school budget election that took place today, and district officials say the $115 million budget has passed while Tara Aragona and Mathew Hollenstein won school board seats.

The budget passed with 924 "yes" votes and 345 "no" votes. On the school board election, Aragona received 945 votes while Hollenstein received 855.

While the district pierced the state tax levy cap with this budget, district officials told Patch earlier this month that the increase wasn't as sizable as the cap-piercing moniker might make it sound.

"When all is said and done, we're asking the voters for $800,000 more. We're below our 10 year average. We're below the Nassau County average. We're even below 2 percent," Superintendent Dr. Paul Lynch said.

The budget carries a 1.97 percent increase in tax levy year-over-year, which district officials say will increase school tax by about $100 for an average household.
