Massapequa Man Injured Officer In Traffic Stop: Police

MASSAPEQUA, NY — A Massapequa man injured an officer trying to place him under arrest during a traffic stop in Massapequa on Monday night, Nassau police said.

Strategic Response Team officers conducting a vehicle and traffic law stop on a 2015 Dodge pickup truck, near North Broadway and North Idaho Avenue at around 8 p.m., determined the driver was intoxicated, according to police.

When officers tried to place him into custody, he became combative and resisted arrest, causing one officer to sustain injuries, police said.

Officers then placed Francisco Avila Flores, 29, under arrest, and the injured officer was taken to an area hospital for treatment, according to police.

Flores was taken to an area hospital for an evaluation, police said.

He was charged with second-degree assault, a felony, and driving while intoxicated, fourth-degree criminal mischief, resisting arrest, all misdemeanors, and multiple vehicle and traffic law infractions.

He is scheduled for arraignment on Tuesday at First District
Court in Hempstead.
