NASSAU COUNTY, NY — While NBA and NHL playoffs play out across the country, Nassau County sports seasons are rolling on through the highs and lows of their own.

Athletes from Massapequa and Seaford committed to play their sports in college this week, with ceremonies to honor the athletes at their schools.

“This is something to be very proud of,”Massapequa interim physical education director Matt McLees said, highlighting the determination, perseverance and leadership of the Massapequa seniors.

In Seaford, Health and Athletics Director Kevin Witt reminded athletes to take lessons learned in high school with them at the next level.

“Remember what you learned here — know that putting your best foot forward and working as hard as you can is going to lead you in the right direction,” Witt said. “You have a great support system, so depend on that. I’m very confident you’re all going to land in a very good spot.”

Baldwin Basketball Reads To Kids

Baldwin varsity basketball players Rian Gittens, Gabriel Phillips, Ethan Sainsbury, and Mical Saint Jean accompanied head coach Darius Burtonto Lenox Elementary School to read basketball stories to a trio of fourth-grade classes before competing in a basketball shooting competition with the elementary schoolers.

Massapequa Flag Football Player Reaches The 1,000 Yard Mark

Reese Reustle reached 1,000 yards on the season for Massapequa flag football, which rose to 7-2 in conference play after an 18-7 win over Port Washington and a 13-0 win over Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK this week. On the year, Massapequa is 11-4, good for third place behind winners of 10 straight games Syosset.
