Playoff Picture Takes Shape Girls Hoops

As Long Island prepares to turn the calendar over to March, there's already some madness on the court in Nassau County playoffs that a Sunday-to-Monday blizzard couldn't stop.

On the girls' side of the bracket, the Class-A finals are set, with Floral Park and Plainedge punching their tickets to Farmingdale State Thursday night. Plainedge won an upset over top-seeded Wantagh that went down to the final seconds, holding on to win 44-41, while Floral Park had a slightly easier matchup, dispatching of Seaford 45-36.

In other corners of the girls' hoops playoff picture, the Elite Eight of Class AA will pit Jericho against top-seeded MacArthur, New Hyde Park against Manhasset, Roslyn v. South Side and Calhoun v. Garden City. Those games will take place at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, while the Final Four in Class AAA will be played Sunday. In those games, Syosset will play Baldwin at noon while Uniondale takes on Massapequa at 2:30 p.m.

Boys Bracket Draws Closer To The End

In the boys' bracket, the first ticket to the finals is still yet to be punched. Garden City, Roslyn and South Side won big in Thursday night's Class AA action, dispatching of Elmont, Hewlett and Long Beach, respectively.

The weekend will bring playoff action in Classes AAA, AA, A and B.

On Saturday, Manhasset will take on Jericho at 1 p.m. in Class AA quarters, followed at 5:30 by a Class A matchup between Lynbrook and Friends Academy and at 8 p.m. by a Floral Park v. Seaford bout.

Then, Sunday, top-seeded Baldwin will take on fifth-seed Farmingdale in Class AAA semis at Farmingdale State. That game tips at 5 p.m., with the other semifinal between Valley Stream Center and Port Washington to follow.
