For athletes from Manhasset, Massapequa and Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK, it was a week highlighted by wins, both in blowouts and nail biters.

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — As temperatures ratcheted up to summer levels, the sports action in Nassau County stayed in the spring this week. Whether it was on the track, the turf or the diamond, athletes from Manhasset, Massapequa and Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK were on top of their game.

Read on to see who shined in the Nassau County Team of the Week.

Manhasset boys’ lacrosse is no longer undefeated after a loss to Connecticut opponent Darien last week, but Set more than shook off the loss this week.

In two competitions, the team beat Long Beach 14-2 and Port Washington 7-1, bringing them to 8-1 on the year and 4-0 in conference play. While Set’s 11 goals per game scoring average isn’t even top 5 in the county, Manhasset has had enough steam to put away almost all of its opponents this year.

Barring the loss to Darien, they’ve yet to give up double-digit goals in a game while holding several opponents to two or less. They’ll be in action against Cold Spring Harbor next Tuesday before taking on Chaminade Saturday, Apr. 25.

AAA-1 Baseball Picture Gets Complicated

Massapequa baseball took two of three from Farmingdale this week, throwing a wrench in what was previously a pretty straightforward set of standings atop Conference AAA-1.

In the opening two games of the series, Massapequa won 5-1 and 9-8, before dropping the third game 7-1 Thursday. While those results don’t seem out of the ordinary by themselves, they give Massapequa five wins against Farmingdale and Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK on the year, after they swept Plainview-Old Bethpage earlier this season.

Outside the Massapequa games, those two teams are 12-1, and they play each other on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday next week. That series is one Massapequa will surely be keeping an eye on, even as they take on East Meadow on the same days.

Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK Softball’s Run Reaches 10 Games

If Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK softball players get rattled during close games, they didn’t show it this week. The Hawks held off Plainedge Monday to win 4-3, then dispatched of East Meadow 10-8 on Tuesday and Clarke 5-3 on Thursday.

While there have been a couple of blowouts on their schedule so far, the Hawks haven’t been strangers to this kind of tense matchup so far. Half of their 10 games, all wins, have been decided by one or two runs each.
