Massive Street Takeover Bust In Medford Sees 15 Rounded Up, 7 Vehicles Seized: Police

Numerous vehicles effectively closed down the roadway, driving recklessly, performing stunts, and doing donuts and burnouts, police say.

MEDFORD, NY — Fifteen people were arrested, and seven vehicles impounded after a street takeover in Medford early Saturday morning, Suffolk police said.

Through intelligence gathering and social media monitoring, the Street Takeover Task Force, assisted by multiple Suffolk police commands, learned a street takeover was planned in the county on Friday night at an unknown location, according to police.

The task force successfully tracked the group through numerous locations, deterring them and preventing takeovers at locations at Commack Road and Sunrise Highway in Islip, and then Route 112 and Main Street in Patchogue, before intercepting them at Woodside Avenue and Sawgrass Drive in
Medford just before 1 a.m. on Saturday, police said.

Members of the Street Takeover Task Force responded, and arrested 15 people and impounded seven vehicles, police said.

Additionally, multiple traffic tickets were issued for various infractions.

The following people were arrested and charged with misdemeanors, including, participation in unlawful speed contest and spectating unlawful speed contest:

  • A 20-year-old from New York.
  • A 19-year-old from Westbury.
  • An 18-year-old from North Babylon.
  • A 21-year-old from Deer Park.
  • A 19-year-old from Hicksville.
  • An 18-year-old from Hicksville.
  • An 18-year-old from Westbury.
  • A 23-year-old from East Islip.
  • A 21-year-old from North Babylon whose vehicle was impounded.
  • A 22-year-old from Roosevelt whose vehicle was impounded.
  • A 20-year-old from New York whose vehicle was impounded.
  • A 20-year-old from Flushing whose vehicle was impounded.
  • An 18-year-old from Hicksville whose vehicle was impounded.
  • An 18-year-old from Lynbrook whose vehicle was impounded.

A 22-year-old from North Bellmore was charged with participation in unlawful speed contest only, and their vehicle was impounded.

The defendants are scheduled to appear at First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.
