Driver Dies After Car Crash In Uniondale, Police Say

A 25-year-old man was pronounced dead Wednesday after a crash on Hempstead Turnpike, police say.

UNIONDALE, NY — A 25-year-old man was pronounced dead Wednesday after a car crash in Uniondale that left his car on its side, police said.

Nassau County police said Wednesday night that the 25-year-old man was traveling east on Hempstead Turnpike at the intersection with Glen Curtiss Boulevard at 10:42 a.m. when his Toyota sedan crossed over and collided with a white BMW that was traveling westbound on the turnpike.

According to police, a 34-year-old man was driving the BMW with a 34-year-old woman riding as a passenger. The BMW driver and passenger were taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries, while the 25-year-old Toyota driver was hospitalized and pronounced dead by hospital personnel, police said.

Police said the investigation into the crash is ongoing, and did not identify any of the people involved in the crash Wednesday night. According to police, there were no other injuries resulting from the crash.

In the aftermath of the crash, all lanes on the westbound side of the turnpike were closed into Wednesday afternoon, police said.
