Dangerous Cold, Light Snow In Forecast For Hudson Valley This Weekend: NWS
Here are the latest snow accumulation estimates and updates on bitterly cold temperatures.
HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Snow and dangerously cold temperatures are in the forecast for the Hudson Valley region this weekend.
The National Weather Service reports an arctic cold front will bring “light snow accumulation” starting Friday night and into Saturday morning.
Tom Wasula, a lead meteorologist with the National Weather Service based in Albany, said up to an inch of snow is expected for the Hudson Valley region.

Snow is expected to begin around 1 a.m. and wind down completely by 1 p.m. on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.
Bitterly cold temperatures arrive later on Saturday.

“Frigid air, strong winds, and hazardous/dangerous wind chills expected Saturday into Sunday,” the National Weather Service said. “The lowest wind chills will occur Saturday night into Sunday morning, potentially -20 to -25 inland and -10 to -20 elsewhere.”
An extreme cold watch has been issued which includes all of eastern New York. The National Weather Service is cautioning that frostbite and hypothermia are “real threats for those who will be spending time outdoors.”
It advises that frostbite is possible on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. The watch is in effect from Saturday evening through Sunday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service also has issued a hazardous weather outlook alert for southeast New York.
“An arctic air mass combined with strong northwest winds may produce very cold to dangerous wind chills from late day Saturday into Sunday morning,” the outlook states. “Lowest wind chill values expected during the late night and early daylight hours, and could be as low as 15 to 20 below zero.”
The work week will bring warmer temperatures, with sunshine predicted for both Monday and Tuesday, and daytime highs in the mid-20s on Monday and low 30s on Tuesday.

Today: Sunny, with a high near 28. Wind chill values between 15 and 25. Northwest wind around 6 mph.
Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 13. Wind chill values between 5 and 10. North wind 3 to 5 mph.
Friday: Mostly cloudy, with a high near 28. Wind chill values between 15 and 25. Light and variable wind.
Friday Night: Snow likely, mainly after 1 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 15. Calm wind becoming west around 6 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Saturday: A chance of snow before noon, then a slight chance of snow showers between noon and 1 p.m. Cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly sunny, with a temperature falling to around 11 by 5 p.m. Windy, with a northwest wind 15 to 20 mph increasing to 26 to 31 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 48 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 2. Windy.
Sunday: Sunny and cold, with a high near 18.
Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 5.
Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 26.

Friday Night: Snow showers likely, mainly after 1 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 13. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Saturday: A chance of snow showers before 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 16. Northwest wind 9 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around -7.
Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 17.
Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around -4.
