Dump Truck With Bed Raised Catches Overhead Wires, Flips On Side: NYSP
The mishap serves as a reminder for drivers to stay attentive and confirm the bed completely lowered before hitting the road, police said.
LAGRANGE, NY — A Dutchess County dump truck driver is lucky to have escaped serious injure after forgetting something of critical importance, according to police
Members of the Troop K Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit (CVEU) responded to a dump truck crash in LaGrange, after the vehicle was driven from a yard with its dump body still raised.
The cab guard caught overhead lines, lifting the truck’s front axle off the ground and causing the vehicle to roll onto its passenger side, police said.

The operator was not seriously injured, according to police.
New York State law requires applicable trucks with tilting or lifting beds to have a warning light in the cab that activates whenever the bed is elevated.

"This incident is an important reminder for commercial vehicle operators to remain attentive and confirm that the dump body is completely lowered before putting the vehicle in motion," NYSP said in a statement about the accident. "Driver attention can make all the difference."
