Hudson Valley Weather: Snow Accumulation Estimates Released For Major Storm: Here's What To Know

A winter storm watch is in effect, according to the National Weather Service.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Meteorologists are estimating that the storm arriving on Sunday could bring between six inches to over a foot of snow.

The National Weather Service on Thursday announced a winter storm watch is in effect from late Saturday night through Monday afternoon for all of southeast New York.

Snow is expected to arrive very early Sunday, with the heaviest snow later Sunday and into Sunday evening. The storm is predicted to wind down on Monday, National Weather Service forecasters said.

Travel will be impacted, and motorists should be cautious of “slick and hazardous” roads, especially bridges and overpasses, according to the National Weather Service.

“Visibilities may drop below one quarter mile in heavy snow,” Thursday’s notice said.

The National Weather Service advises people to consider delaying any travel from Sunday into Monday. If you need to travel, make sure your vehicle is in good working order, and bring a winter storm kit in case you get stuck or stranded, it advises.

This should include tire chains, booster cables, a flashlight, shovel, blankets, food, water, extra clothes, and a first aid kit, according to the National Weather Service.
