News 12 Cuts Dozens Of Staff In New York, Connecticut: Reports

Dozens of staffers at News 12 are losing their jobs due to layoffs, according to reports.

The cuts impact newsrooms in the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Westchester in New York and in Connecticut, according to the New York Post.

The media outlet reported the layoffs include at least three dozen people, including long-time journalists who have worked there for several years.

Television news industry blog FTVLive first reported on the layoffs on Wednesday, and staffers were notified of the cuts on Tuesday.

News site 06880 reports the impacted staffers hold a variety of positions, ranging from on-air journalists to photographers, executive producers and editorial managers.

In Connecticut, news industry blog The Laurel reported 11 are being let go in Connecticut, including anchors Mark Sudol and Becky Suran.

Taylor Chapman, a spokesperson for Optimum Communications, Inc., parent company of News 12, issued the following statement to Patch regarding the layoffs Friday morning:

“Local journalism is changing, and News 12 is evolving with it. As audiences increasingly consume news across platforms and formats, we are taking proactive steps to ensure News 12 remains strong, relevant, and sustainable for the future. Our mission remains unchanged. We remain committed to delivering trusted hyperlocal journalism, serving the communities that rely on us, and providing viewers with the news and information they want, where and how they want it.”

The company did not answer an inquiry about the exact number of impacted workers. As of Friday, no Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notices had been filed with either the Connecticut Department of Labor or the New York State Department of Labor.
